Nuclear Stress Engineer

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Good honours degree in an engineering discipline and at least 2 years relevant experience.
• Assessment of structures subject to normal and extreme loads (natural and/or man made hazards)
• Good interpersonal skills to work individually and in teams
• Written and verbal presentation skills necessary
• Previous nuclear experience particularly with mechanical handling equipment
• Preferably experience with calculations for seismic qualification of equipment
• Proficient in use of Mathcad & ANSYS software packages
• Familiar with BS466, BS2573 and BS5950
• Previous consultancy experience or experience of working in major project environments

Tasks Include:

• Working with mechanical and electrical design engineers through Engineering Definition Phase for design of mechanical handling equipment for the nuclear industry;
• Produce/check calculations in support of designs;
• Extreme load assessment of new and existing facilities;
• Stress analysis of structures subject to normal and extreme loads, hand calculations and finite element analysis;
• Integrity assessment of lifting equipment.
